Most ran clean, but eventually I got an error along the lines of 'line too long or missing newline'. ![]() I can't remember the error, but I ran the various apt commands that the internet tells me to run even though I have no idea what any of them do. I ran update manager, which showed firefox. I do suspect update, and firefox is either a cause, or the first victim. I don't know how many of you use windows, but a random visit to the critical section of event viewer leaves you wondering why the machine isn't actually on fire, this seems to be the normal state of a windows install. I am typing this on the computer in question. However, the most recent occurrence really seemed to stuff up everything. I repair initramfs by running fsck /dev/sda2. ![]() I may be doing something stupid, like updating firefox while browsing 20 different tabs, or something. After shutting down, on the next boot, the initramfs prompt comes up. I'm not sure why, but I can now spot some warning signs in the previous session. Roughly once a month, initramfs becomes corrupt. except the video card, 3-4 year old AMD Radeon 550X. ![]() I built it up myself, generally this means I re-use some old components, but this time, every single part is new. Processor is an AMD Ryzen 3100, with 16gb ram. I have a 4-month old desktop which is running Mint 20.
